Tablecoin ("we", "us", "our") operates the Tablecoin mobile application (the "App"), which helps you discover nearby restaurants, rate and share photos of dishes and menus, and pay restaurants directly from your phone using a card via Stripe.
We are the same company that operates TAC Service, a separate application used by restaurants and other businesses to accept in-person card payments from their customers. Tablecoin and TAC Service are distinct products with separate accounts, and each is governed by its own privacy policy: this Privacy Policy describes only Tablecoin's data practices. TAC Service's data practices are described in its own Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use the App. By using Tablecoin, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@tablecoin.com.
When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive and store:
If you sign in with Google, the App also reads your Google account's profile photo so it can show it on your profile. That photo URL is kept only in encrypted storage on your device — it is never sent to or stored on our servers.
With your permission, the App collects your device's precise foreground location (used only while the App is open and in use — never in the background) to:
Location requests are sent to our servers and, for restaurant search, directly to Google Maps/Places. We do not collect location in the background, and you can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings — restaurant discovery will then rely on manual search instead.
With your permission, the App uses your camera to photograph dishes and menus, and can access your photo library so you can share an existing photo instead of taking a new one. When you upload a photo, we collect:
Photos you upload are run through automated image-recognition services — including a third-party AI vision provider (see Section 4) — to identify the dish or menu item shown, extract menu text, and improve the image's quality. If the App's automated guess is wrong, you can correct it, and we record which dish you actually selected to improve future accuracy.
When you pay a restaurant, send money, or accept a payment request through the App, we collect:
Important: Tablecoin never processes, stores, or transmits raw credit or debit card numbers. All card entry, storage, and charging is handled by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified.
If you set up a payout account to receive money from other users (for example, to accept a payment request), we store:
The App is built to store your device's push-notification token so we can alert you about payment activity when the App is closed. This feature is not yet active in the current release; if and when it is turned on, we will only collect the token needed to deliver a notification to your device, and you can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
The App can report crashes and errors to Sentry, a crash-reporting service, to help us fix bugs. This reporting is off by default and only activates if we have configured it for a given build; even when active, it is configured not to send personal information such as your name or email address.
The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:
| Recipient | Data Shared | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe, Inc. | Payment data, payout account data, user ID | Payment processing and payout onboarding (Stripe Privacy Policy) |
| Google (Sign-In, Maps & Places, Firebase, Cloud Storage) | Email, user ID, device identifiers, location queries, uploaded photos | Authentication, restaurant search/discovery, and photo storage (Google Privacy Policy) |
| Apple | Email (Apple Sign-In only) | Authentication on iOS (Apple Privacy Policy) |
| OpenAI | Dish and menu photos you upload | Automated dish recognition and menu text extraction (OpenAI Privacy Policy) |
| Sentry | Crash and error diagnostics (no personal information by default) | App stability monitoring, where enabled (Sentry Privacy Policy) |
| Our backend servers | Account data, location queries, photo metadata, transaction data | Session management and business logic |
We do NOT sell your personal data. We do not share your data for advertising or marketing purposes.
The App requests the following device permissions, each tied to a specific feature:
You can grant or deny each permission independently, and can change your choice at any time in your device's Settings app. Denying a permission only disables the feature it powers; the rest of the App continues to work.
You can delete your account in either of two ways:
Both paths run the same deletion process. When your account is deleted:
Account deletion is blocked while you have a payment in progress or an unpaid Stripe payout pending, so that no money is stranded mid-transfer; you will be asked to wait for it to settle first.
If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:
Our legal basis for processing your data is: (a) performance of a contract (restaurant discovery and payment processing), (b) legitimate interest (account management, security, fraud prevention), and (c) your consent (where applicable, such as location and camera access).

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
Tablecoin is not directed at individuals under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child, we will delete it promptly. Because the App lets you hold a balance and send money, you must also meet the age requirement in our Terms of Service to create an account.
Our App integrates with the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and notify you through the App. Your continued use of Tablecoin after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
